i remember my old 89 indy 500 used to almost hang with my other friends xlt back when i was little and theres no way this xlt can come close to my 700..

It makes me laugh to see these "kids" pipe up and start chirping about how great their shit is, and how everybody else's stuff is junk. Probably holed up in thier parents house, thier hot new sled and Britney Spears poster the most valuable thing they own. As far as an XC 500 taking a '98 XC 700...YOU ARE ON CRACK!!! Consider you where 11 or 12 yrs. old at the time that '99 500 was new, you probably weighed what, 100lbs soaking wet? Racing against your Dad, who probably has, what, 75-100+lbs on you? Maybe you "kept up" but thats about it. Lets face it, you could have run against a sled that wasnt tuned or whatever, but the '98 XC700 is one of, if not THE lightest and quickest 700s, and to those in the know, still get and DESERVE tonnes of respect. As far as your I.Q. spanking anything in sight in 330', my good buddy races snocross here in Ontario, and gets a new REV440L.C. racesled given to him every year, not one of them has EVER beat my "dinosaur" at any point in 500' on grass! It usually comes down to his skiloops at my feet, wich, don't get me wrong, is very respectable for a 440 vs. 700. Snow may be a different story, being snocross sleds have huge lugged tracks and hook better in the white stuff, but lets face it, the grass is where the playing field is neutral, power vs. power. You may cry "biased" because I ride an XC700, but believe me, I have owned 800 triples and raced other 700-800 big bore sleds, and done well most of the time on this little trail whore!!! Don't take this as a personal attack, but come on, the guy was describing a bet he had with a buddy on somewhat comparable sleds, and it got turned into a "hey, forget about your crap, I'll spank you with my purpose built race sled that is 8 yrs. newer technology and cost 3 times more".

Lets race more than 300 if you got such a bad ass sled. You old mans 700 must have been junk. I have never been beat by anything smaller than a F7 with my 98 xc 700.
The slowest mine has gone in 660ft is 98 mph. Your 440 won't even go that fast...

No offence, cause I do think the 98 XC is one of the nicest sleds ever, but both those sleds do like they came from a wrecking yard.
I would like to have an xc700 as a spare though. Right now my spare is a 95 XCR, which I love too, but the suspension leaves a little to be desired, and it's in kind of rough shape.

If the XLT had triple pipes Id say it would give you a run for your money, but an XLT with stock exhaust has almost no chance of beating a 700 XC.

so, becouse my last hood had a crack in it my sled is deemed a junk yard sled?
if thats the case i have a blue hood and nose cone for it but im waiting for the white one to be ripped off before i need too replace it seeing as it works just fine at the moment.

trader. I have setup xlts to beat 700 twins easy. you give me a stock 97 or newer xlt with xtra 10 and let me set it up for trail riding and I will do 600' drags against your xc. if we had drivers of the same weight to help make it equal I would go out to a 1000'. done it before and do it again. I had my 95 xlt with pipes and xtra 12 smoking 95 mach ones and 96 formula III's in 600' at 700' I was out of gear and they were pulling on me. but I have learned a lot since then as well!!
on the other hand give me a 98 700 xc and I will show you how to run down dragons in the 1/4 mile.

Might help to go with bigger carbs as well, i had a 95 xlt and it was a great sled, fuel consumption vs power was right on the money! Are you using this sled strictly for dragz?
Also have a question for my sledder buddies, I have 7 different sleds and would like to get a little more power out of my 500 xc sp, I have installed 40 mm carbs and will have to install the 1.5 cut away slides as it is now running too lean!
I live in nunavut and each year we have cross country races, running stock engine with clutch / gear modifications it does about 106 to 108 mph, would installing the 40 mm carbs give me a little more juice out of the engine??

an xc700 will smoke a xlt unless the xlt is ported and has pipes stock xc700 has 120hp and a stock xlt has 97 do the math...as for a 1999 xc500 beating an xlt i believe it they have 105hp stock.

IVE OWNED 3 XLTS and they wenrt no dogs. in a drag maybe but they'd still do 95 mph. a xc 700 wont do much more than that. my back in 2000 I bought a brand new xc600ves and my friend got a 94 xlt and we were going down the bay and loocked at each other than pinned it. I swear that thibg was almost pulling from me no lenths or nothing but I was impressed. not sure if the newer longer travel ones would, but that old 94 580 sure went like hell man.
from a dead stop for a 660 fter, that xlt will by going balls out for sure but cruising side by side at 50 I bet the xlt ( if not all pissed out) would give the 7 a go run for its money!

I used to have both versions '98 XC7s - I bought the 824 version brand new and was never beat by anything smaller than the 600s. I have a friend who used to give me fits with his FIII600, but Im willing to bet that he had a shimkit added on it and swears to me that his sled was stock. I knew he was lying all along anyway. I also had a 220 version and let me tell ya, for a very short time Ive had that sled, I was never beat by any 700s except for this one guy who had a well running '02 XC7 (whos to say what he really have under the hood) I have had a few people coming up to me, and thinks that 220 version was modified - actually, it wasnt. I just changed the clutching and made it more aggressive off the line. Plus, I had an orginal delta VF reeds, claims to be addition 5 hp (shhhhhh) for that motor. Thats was the best sled I ever own for a short period of time. I really didnt want to sell it but a buddy of mine made me a good deal and I couldnt refuse. Oh well, life goes on. WL

PS - I used to have a '95 XCR6 with pipes, heads and trail-ported. I dont think this sled could have beat any of my XC7s in short drags. If this was lake racing, it might have long enough legs to out run the XCs.

I think my 340 sport (90) could spank all of you!! I'd race for slips, but I don't wear them.
As far as the original question, I don't care how they look. a bet between friends would be fun, just to see.
For the people who had to bring up what you have, what does this question have to do with your sled? do you own one of the two in question? if no then nobody asked you. my first sentance wa a joke, no I don't think it would take you, but it shows you how stupid it looks to write stuff like that! other people have nice sleds too! I am only refering to the people putting other peoples sleds down, not the people drawing from personal expiriance. Thats what forums are for.
I think I'd put money on the xc, but I do like that hood.

I've got no experience with the xc lineup. but I had an 88 indy 400LC and that thing was a bat outta hell. The only thing that wasn't stock was the upgraded fox gas shocks all around and the wiseco piston kits. Every year we had 1/4 mile drags on the river near my house. The speeds were recorded for the leader of each heat with radar gun. I never raced but it was my dad's buddy who owned the gun. So after the races he clocked my little 400 indy at 94mph on radar. I've never since seen a 400 hit speeds like that. I currently have a 03 pro-xr 440 and the thing is pretty wild as well but it tops out at about 75mph due to clutching. It's fast off the line and when you hammer on while cruising. My dad couldn't pull away from me on an apex, but he would squash me with top speed as I've already had the apex at about 105mph with throttle left.
