Full Version: 09 SB Shock Upgrade?

I have a 2009 Switch (non dragon). Ive had all the shocks (Ryde & Fox PS5) revalved for my weight and riding style. Still bottom out. So I upgraded the rear spring to a .40X heavy spring. I now only get about 1" static sag when Im on it but still bottom out on really rough trails.

So I'm going to replace the track shocks with Walker Evans. The 2009 WE Dragon track used 7043244 non-res front and 7043316 rear. The 2011 Switch uses a WE 7043717 non-res front and WE 7043205 rear. I'm wondering if the 2011's are compatible with my suspension.

Second, I went to the dealer this week and he suggested a WE performance kit in the accessories brochure that uses the same 7043205 rear but calls a 7043383 remote res. front track shock. Last use I see is a 2007 Dragon.

I can get the accessory set for $540 total. Where the shocks for the 2011 are $600+$350=$950.

Anyone know what my best option is? Im OK spending the extra $ if the 2011 is a better shock package vs the accessory kit. I just hate to get one and wish I went the other way.

You did not mention how much you weigh. I am 240 with gear and have a 2010 800 Switch with the stock shocks all around. I put the 405 springs on it from my 08 FST Dragon 121 and have them set as soft as they go and have about 1000 miles on them. It will not bottom out with everything else set to the stock positions and the rear scissor stop also set to the softest setting.

I have the front set up as hard as I dare considering I am running 6" Woody's dual carbides and it handles great. Not sure why you should bottom out unless they did not get the shocks set as hard as they should have.

Reading through the lines, if you are bottoming out on really rough trails you need to make things stiffer yet and since the shocks you have can be rebuilt then I would go back to your shock builder and have him set them up for agressive riding. You will lose your "ride in" but you can't have it both ways. Once you want to ride fast and hard you need to have tight suspension so you trade off the smooth ride at 25 mph to a smooth ride at 50.

Sorry, I weigh about 225 with gear. I've set the block to maximum stiffness and the couplers to max linkage. I cant get anymore bottoming protection than I have without rebuilding shocks or getting new ones. I trust the guy that redid them as he does work for Fast and Polaris.

So I'm back to looking for WE clicker coil-overs where I can set the sag correctly at 4" and stiffen up the clickers when needed. Best of smooth when desired and stiff when needed.

Still trying to decide between the WE 7043717 2011 non-clicker Switchback and the 2007 7043383 clicker front track shock.

Boy, I can't see how you are bottoming out with the heavier springs and the RRStops set on high. As I stated, I have mine set on soft and have ride in and no bottoming on my Switch. Good Luck with the new shocks, whatever you decide.

How do your shock experts explain that the track shocks set up for your weight and riding style are bottoming out?

You obviously have enough preload from your springs, with 1" of sag.

Yes, I hear ya. I don't understand it either. I've been using Deycore. www.deycore.com. I know they guarantee their valving and I can take them back if I don't like the setup but I decided not to take the rear skid out 2-3 time to get it right.

Ended up installing the WE kit on both front and back track shock. Didnt go in perfectly, required some dremel work for one of the shock bolts to clear one of the inside idle wheels. Also needed to dremel some of the front upper mount.

Put original springs back in to get sag set properly.

But it was worth it. Rides great. Three clicks on way and its a trail cruiser, Three tighter and its a launcher.

Way glad I did it. Not I just need to figure out that the front spring and clicker should be set to.....

If your going to buy new shocks, dont get the walker evans. I thought the same thing for my rmk but they werent too great. I would recommend Fox Float 2.0, they are lighter/softer/and resist bottoming out quite alot more than the walker evans did. On the other hand, the walker evans rear shocks are nice in my opinion. They seem to be more plush and have better rebound rates than the original shocks. Any other questions PM me.
