Hey guys, I just joined this site a few days ago and also just recently bought myself a 1991 Indy 650 liquid cooled triple for $500. When I bought it it had been sitting in storage for 2 years or more and was in need of help. I started with the fuel system and carbs and worked my way through until I had eventually rebuilt the whole thing with new carbs, lines, filters ect, as soon as I got done with that i started it up and have been having no real problems I just have some general questions. What should this sled idle at, right now it is idling reliably at 2000 rpm. The carbs need some tuning and I was wondering about general tuning info for them, Mikuni 38mm roundslides. Also I have one issue, what rpm should the clutch engage and the sled start taking off? Right now it has to rev up to 4000+ to move, but once it is above that its fine just curious if its a problem and i need to replace the belt. Well thats about it thanks for any advice you can give!

I have a 1991 RXL 650 which is the same motor as an Indy 650 only the RXL is fuel injected. Mine idles right around 2,000 rpm and engages a little above 4,000 just like you stated. That's where it should be. I love mine to death. 8,915 miles and still will do about 105-110 mph. Never been rebuilt either.
