Can anyone tell me if this sled was efi or not? And whats every ones opinion on these. Pros and cons all welcomed. Thanks

No EFI here, came with 38 mm carbs. I believe the Storm had a 750 in the first two years of production and then went to the classic 800 which was bullet proof and had some snap to it. Not a very popular sled to tinker with in the early model years because of the lack of parts and interchangeablity issues.

The storm was the polaris star but its light was very dim. It never seemed to reach its potenial due to the weight and the setup. Trailriding it was a workout for the average rider. The storms I have rode all had the same feel. They would not hold a trail speed very well.....they seemed to always want more throttle and when you tried to manage your speed around 40 mph it wasn't wanting to do that. It was like 20 mph or 50 mph ...and hard to find the middle of that. Stock clutching was poor(soft) but it could be reworked as most were. Smaller fuel tank made for limited range. In its day it never had a shot unless it was modded up. The cat ZRT's and the infamous MachZ's just outclassed the storm in speed and power. The last storms went with the aggressive chassis........that chassis was made to hold a triple triple combo and the 800 fit nicely in it but to do that it gained 14 lbs in the bulkhead and tunnel alone. The storm got even heavier than it was before.
The 800 triple really didn't shine until it was dropped into the Gen II chassis and became the top cog in the XC lineup.

Thank you both for your posts. Very muchly apreciated. Theb reason i ask is a guy from here at work just bought one. Its his first sled, so he is not an experienced rider. Has rode some, but hardly ever. It sounds to me like this was probably a very poor choice for him. we shall see sunday morning when we go riding. It'll be trail and lake riding, so i think I'll be sure to stay far away on the trails from him, lol. I'll give him a heads up as to what to expect so he doesnt try to over do himself on the trail. End up hurting himself or someone else. Once again thanks u 2.

Yeah, really the Gen II chassis with the 800 never hit gold either. As said it gained way too much weight due to the chassis change to be a mountain sled and was just out classed.

93 was the first year for the Storm and the only year that they had a 750 engine. 94 Storms started the 800 engine which is a little touchy with stock gearing on the trails. Watch out for your buddy when you get on the lake he may run over you as this sled whwn properly jetted can easily do over 115 mph. Let your buddy know that getting going is easy but stopping this sled takes a while especially if he does not have a studded track. If he is not happy with how this sled handles the trails have him put in the Storm SKS gearing, will sacrifice about 8-10 mph on top end but will help keep engine in its powerband on the trails. The weight issue is a lot of BS as they only weigh about 30# more than a new 900 Fusion.

94 storm is listed at over 550 lbs. dry.
Compared to an 05' 800 xcsp listed at 499 lbs. dry
Thats over 50 lbs of extra weight.

Yes but most of this extra weight is in the steel skis and rear suspension. This is unsprung weight and actually gives the sled a lower center of gravity.

^ yes good answer..However there is also differences in how the weight is transfured when going in, while in, and comming out of a corner..and different ski pressure adjustments and such..Im betting that a fusion 600 will handle a smidge better than a 94 800 triple storm..I mean, the storm was blazing fast..and the fusion still has a poo load of problems..But theres still a reason why the wedge is no more.

I have no doubt that the Fusions handle better than any of the wedge chassie sleds. I upgrade to Xtra-12 because the ride of the old x-100 really had alot of issues. For the yaers that they made the Storms I believe that they were a great machine if you just piad attention to them and did PMS. These Sleds were not the greatest handling due their old school suspensions but put one on a long straight and they will scare the S__t out of you (scary fast ). Also these 800 cc sleds did not have the hand numbing vibration common to the 900 Fusions.

Well my buddy took his first 160 miles with no hicups on the old storm. I pulled up to the gas station this morning and he was sitting their with it idling. I'm like wicked, damn thing has pipes, lol. What a racquet. Seem to run good though. Heres a couple of pics, Boys from work and the wife of course, line up at the marina ready to chow down. The second one is off the storm. Had the fusion to 96 miles per hour according to the guage. Not pinned, but i'm not to sure it will go much faster than that. Whos knows, we'll see. every trip I go a little faster trying it out, lol. Just have not had the nerve to put it to the bar just yet. Paranoid about the break in I suppose, lol.
