I've got a 02 440 pro-x fan cooled and im looking into doing a fewmods to it i was thinking in some pod air filters and a couple of power reeds does anyone know about this being done before and do you think this could work proper

There really are no engine mods you can do to this. Stay away from pod filters. They will only let the engine suck in warm under hood air instead of cold outside air and make it even harder to tune. As for reeds there are none available for this engine. You can buy a sheet of reed material and make your own though.

Start with this... This will work for most flat landers... Where are you located?

Clutching - New almond/red primary spring, S-53-H weights and belt clearance shimmed to .005-.010". Secondary- R-12 helix and new silver/blue spring.

Re-gear it to 19/42.

Carbs should be clean and synced. Pilot jets should be the stock #40's. Set the air screws to 1 1/4 turn from lightly seated. Needles at #2 1/2 up to about 25*-30* then to #2 for warmer. Keep it jetted for the temp. Use the chart for jetting for temps...

but wont the pods make it run better from sucking in the one consistant temperature rather then outsides mixed tempatures and there is a boyesen power reed kit for it

No. First off warm air is less dense than cold air. More dense means more oxygen. More oxygen means more power. Also under hood temps will fluctuate with outside air and engine/pipe temp. Then there is the matter of carb venting. Now they are vented to the air box. The air box helps keep an even pressure signal to the carb vents. This affects the pressure in the float bowl and thus jetting. With pods you would have to vent them to the atmosphere (under hood). So it will run way richer and (because of more pressure on the vents) need re jetting. After you lean it out to run at low speed and you get sled speed built up, the pressure in the engine bay will raise, leaning out the jetting.

Bottom line: Keep the air box. There is no power to be found by replacing it with pods. Often when people use pods, it's because they have transplanted an engine and don't want to fit/modify/fabricate or simply can't fit an air box.

As for the reeds, See for yourself. Nobody makes a drop in reed for this engine. Like I said, you can buy the material and make your own, but that's it.

Make sure your carbs are up to snuff and make the changes to the clutching and gearing I recommended and you will forget about pods...
