I know what the book recommends for belt replacement but I wanted opinions from the forum on when I should and at what mileage or hours. Thanks in advance.

anyone know?.... i asked the dealer last time i was in and they said don't bother changeing it unless i notice problems..... i have 4500 kms on my 800 sportsman now and no problems with the clutches or belt ... i do use low range alot , i heard that saves wear on the belt and most of my driveing is on real rough terrain!!

You are quite right, towing, snowplowing, very demanding terrain, should all be done in low range. Doing these tasks in high range, is the single biggest cause of excessive belt and clutch wear.
