Hello sledder buddies!

I have 7 different polaris sleds and wanting to give my 2005 500 xc sp a little more kick, it currently does about 106 to 108 mph stock engine with clutching/gearing mod on cross country racing, i have installed 40 mm carbs and is running lean with the 2.0 throttle valve cut away slides, I will install the 1.5 slides this evening and experiment some more. any pointers out there?

I'm a huge polaris fan,

1 each 2002 500 xc xp

1 each 2005 500 xc xp

2 each 2007 500 xc xp

1 each 2004 pro xr 800

1 each 2004 pro xr 440

1 each 2002 polaris indy lite

1 each polaris mini sled 120

The whole family just loves sledding. well that's all folks,

oh by the way I entered my 440 in the ice dragz and ran 7.6 in 660! stock engine with clutch and gearing mods!

You got your 500 to pull up to 106-108 MPH? Wow, that's really good for a stock motor. I don't know much about changing to bigger carbs, but I'm impressed.

yeah what do you have done for clutching? on my sled its slightly different seeing how i have team rollers not allowing me to by an epi clutch kit but whats your setup?

A major factor for me having reached those top end speeds is snow conditions, Where i live it's hard packed snow, and track has no slip, If i'm not mistaken you probably live in an area where you have mostly power snow?? Well anyway, I went back to using the regular button type secondary!

Try the R-8 helix with stock silver/blue spring in 3rd hole, i find team secondary's are too steep , and are set up for the holeshot! and may not be opening all the way ! lower angle helixes will give you more top end! or you can also try the HC-X roller secondary with a 40-42 angle, i'm not sure if the kit will work on the team secondary but be sure to ask the supplier!

I believe your 2004 500 has the 56 gram clutch weights, you can go with heavier ones lets say 58 grams, what ever weights you have you can go up at least 2 grams which will give you more belt squeezing force, change your gearing to 23/39.

installing a 1"1/4 lug track might help in your powdery snow as well!!

Also be sure to adjust your jetting to appropriate ambient tempts!

Make sure you follow the jetting chart as it gives you the most accurate jetting! (engine failure may occur if you go too lean!)

Hope this helps!!!

My 04 pro xr rocks!!!!

Any pointers for porting and polishing intake and exhausts?? Don't want to shave the head , but would like a little more hp on pump gas! Is it just a matter of getting the intake an exhaust ports as smooth as possible, or is there some removal of material too???
