Full Version: Will Polaris Follow Ski-Doo
Polaris Files > Snowmobiles > Beginners and Youth
Triple650Indy
Well, Ski-Doo just released their new "Freestyle," which looks like an ugly version of their REV. The machine is aimed at youth and beginners. My question to you is, will Polaris follow Ski-doo or will Polaris wait and see?

I dont think so. The Freestyle will be a passing fad.
For a little bit more than what a Freestyle costs you can get a 340 and get a lot more sled.

na they should not fallow us (Polaris)

A while back (maybe like 5 months???), when ski-doo was hyping up the comming of their ugly Freestyle, I got an e-mail from Polaris asking me to do a survey for them (I guess they got my adress 'cause I signed up to something on their website). Anyway, the survey said that they were thinking of building a sled for younger/beginner snowmobilers, and wanted opinions on what buyers of this kind of sled might find most important. They asked all sorts of questions like what's the biggest factor ...price...power....weight...blah blah blah. I think the Freestyle's not a bad idea (too bad it's so ugly), it just depends who their trying to sell it too. They're supposed to be pretty good performers for a 300, supposedly they'll go 50 mph. I think the big attraction is the fact that their so small. I could see it being good for 12-14 year olds, but anyone older would probably get tired of it within the season. I think Polaris should look into it. If I were 14 years old, a little 300 IQ would be pretty sweet. You'd be just the right size to throw it around, jump it, and get used to some higher speeds.

Not to mention the fact that the WPSA (used to be WSA) now has a "Freestyle" racing class just for sleds like the Freestyle.
Also, look at the resale value that Yamaha SnoScoots have. They still sell for $1000-$1500 on Ebay.
Polaris doesnt make a 340 anymore, so maybe...

Polaris still ofers the 340 in two sleds, the 340 classic and the 340 touring. cool.gif

Wouldn't surprise me.

Ski Doo is actually putting a 550 Fan motor in the Freestyle soon. Put that in a Tundra, strip off some parts, and you'll have a lightweight sled that will go absolutely anywhere...

I have to agree with both of ya. I seen a freestyle today and they are not to attractive, lol. I always thought the 340 polaris would be a good sled for little guy, when he grows out of his 120, but i think he will get the wife's classic 550 and buy her a new one, or by that time maybe i'll give her my 600 and i'll buy a new one. laugh.gif

I wouldnt blame ya hemp. I was close to buying a new cat. I dont think there is a better looking sled out there right now. Dont get me wrong i like the looks of the polaris but the cats really are sharp and the F7 rips. But my heart and freinds told me togo with the polaris.(reliability) And i dont think i made a mistake, it rides and performs awesome.

hempman, why dose the front of your sled sit so low? just wondering..

i think mini sleds are for pussys, i had a 340, for 2 years... when i was 9 i had a indy 500...

i wisj they would of just started me out on some crappy 440 trail sled...
hempman181
lower the better less wind drag and less hoping whne i give her she dont come up as much so the i get better traction this sled is only used for racing now
crdude
oh i see, im usually jumping mine and i was thinking "dose mine sit that low?!? dont remember it like that!" lol

ya i think that polaris should think about the kids that are 10-14. something that has enough to get out of its own way but not to much. but if all kids are like me we want to haul a@@. thats way i got a 600 with mods
jordandakota
haha there's no way i could still be entertained with only a 300. I'm 14 but im 6'2'' and weigh about 170 lbs and I have a 1991 RXL 650....that thing rips. Got to ride it today and got it stuck worse than I should have. Only thing I don't like about it is the weight. Oh well. My cousin also has a 1992 Indy 500 EFI SKS...that thing is pretty sweet. Last year he also got a 1996 XCR 600....my 650 is still faster. haha. we have fun with them.
